Carl Zeiss Meditec has unveiled the latest addition to the Cirrus family of optical coherence tomography (OCT) technology, promising greater practice efficiency and imaging detail.
The ophthalmic device manufacturer officially released the new Cirrus 6000 at the European Society of Retina Specialists 2019 Congress last week.
The 100kHz OCT system is said to offer eyecare professionals high-speed and high-throughput to help better manage large patient volumes, while also improving both imaging and image quality.
“This system was designed with the patient in mind, enabling doctors to continue accessing their patient data from Cirrus devices that are crucial to effective long-term patient care,” Mr Jim Mazzo, global president of ophthalmic Devices at Carl Zeiss Meditec, said.
“We are committed to our customers and believe this will become an essential asset to their practice.”
Slated for a December release in Australia, the Cirrus 6000 is the latest addition to Zeiss’ HD-OCT device portfolio, which also includes the Cirrus 5000 and Cirrus 500. Cirrus photo options include Cirrus photo 800 and Cirrus photo 600.
According to Zeiss, the 100kHz speed of the new device allows clinicians to scan patients faster, with increased efficiency and improved imaging detail.
Additional features include; wider and deeper OCT/OCT-A scans with 12x12mm OCT-A and B-scan depth up to 2.9mm; a new HD AngioPlex scan type that provides more detail; new workflow protocols to increase efficiency; and patient-friendly ‘Wellness Reports’ to help educate the patient.Retina and vitreoretinal physician and surgeon Dr Gregg Kokame, of Retina Consultants of Hawaii, said the Cirrus 6000 was extrely fast and impressive.
“With the new scan acquisition time of 100,000 per second I can scan and assess my patients much quicker, giving me the details I need with every image,” he said.
