ZEISS Vision Care is organising a webinar to help optometrists and eyecare professionals focus on the growing prevalence of myopia globally, with a particular emphasis on its impact in Australia.

The company said myopia had emerged as a significant global health concern over the past decade, placing a substantial burden on individuals and societies worldwide.

To address this pressing issue, it was putting together a webinar on 22 July, to be moderated by Professor Padmaja Sankaridurg, head of Global Myopia Management at ZEISS Vision Care.

The webinar will feature expert insights from Dr Tim Fricke, director of Research and Education, Australian College of Optometry; Dr Li Lian Foo, the clinical director, Myopia Services, National Eye Centre, Singapore; and Mr Philip Cheng, clinical director, Eyecare Concepts, Victoria.

These leading experts will provide an in-depth review of the current situation, the challenges posed by the increasing prevalence of myopia, and evidence-based strategies for effective management.

Key topics covered:

  • Global and local prevalence of myopia and its impact on quality of life.
  • Risks associated with myopia and how these risks increase with progression.
  • Strategies for managing myopia, including those applicable to the Australian context.
  • Combination therapies as a potential standard of care, particularly for high-risk populations.
  • Recognising higher-risk populations and tailoring management plans accordingly.

The presenters will summarise the evidence for various management strategies and share practical insights into how these can be applied in clinical practice with real-world case studies.

The CPD-accredited session will conclude with an interactive discussion, giving attendees the opportunity to engage directly with the expert panel, ask questions, and resolve challenges they face in their practice.

ZEISS said this was an opportunity to enhance expertise in myopia management and contribute to better patient care.

Those keen to know more and register for the session, at 6pm AEST, 22 July 2025 at 6pm AEST can go to https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/3155935270460786261.
