Optometry Australia surveyed 606 therapeutically- and non-therapeutically-endorsed Australian optometrists under the age of 30. Of the respondents, 587 were in clinical practice and 254 were therapeutically endorsed.The survey results showed that 35 per cent of respondents believed optometrists should be able to use laser for prophylactic iridotomy in future, with 45 per cent supporting the use of YASG laser for posterior capsulotomy.The majority of respondents did not believe that optometrists should be permitted to administer injections within the next 20 years; however, 67 per cent of respondents supported the future use of oral medications by thselves and colleagues.Half of the respondents also believed they should be allowed to prescribe oral therapeutic medications within the next two decades.
