The World Council of Optometry (WCO), in collaboration with Alcon, has launched a three-part video series aimed at helping eyecare professionals better interpret and implement recommendations from the recently released TFOS DEWS III Report.
Announced via a joint media release, the video series distils key findings from the Tear Film & Ocular Surface Society’s Dry Eye Workshop III, offering clinicians a more accessible way to engage with the extensive report. The videos cover an overview of the publication, a breakdown of diagnostic methodologies, and key insights from the management and therapy sections.
The series features leading experts involved in the TFOS DEWS III initiative, including Professor Jennifer Craig, Dr Lyndon Jones, and Dr James Wolffsohn, all members of the report’s steering committee.
WCO president Cindy Tromans said the initiative responded to the practical challenges clinicians faced in keeping up with large-scale research publications.
“It’s crucial that eyecare professionals stay up to date on the latest research and findings, yet we recognise that the pace of life may get in the way of reading TFOS DEWS III in its entirety,” she said.
“This compact video series is designed to be easily digestible, creating an important resource for clinicians and educators looking to continuously improve their practice using the most recent evidence.”
Dry eye disease remains a significant and growing global health issue, affecting an estimated 1.6 billion people worldwide. Rising prevalence has been linked to increased screen use, environmental factors, and ageing populations.
Alcon’s global head of professional education and development, Carla Mack, said the company’s partnership with WCO reflected a shared commitment to improving clinical understanding and patient outcomes.
“Through this TFOS DEWS III summary video series, we aim to translate the latest science and expert perspectives into accessible educational material,” she said. “This helps empower eyecare professionals to better understand, identify, measure and manage this condition in their practices.”
The release of the video series follows the recent introduction of the Dry Eye Management Map, an interactive online tool developed through the WCO–Alcon partnership. The platform integrates TFOS DEWS III guidance to generate evidence-based management pathways while preserving clinician autonomy in decision-making.
In addition, practitioners can access the WCO Alcon Dry Eye Wheel, which outlines a three-step framework – mitigation, measurement and management – to support a structured approach to dry eye care.
