Vision Eye Institute (VEI) has partnered with Latitude to provide patients with buy now, pay later (BNPL) payment options.
Patients can now access elective eye surgery, including cataract and refractive surgery, consultations, and other treatments at VEI through LatitudePay.
Mr Peter Sexton, VEI’s chief financial officer, said that given the long wait times for public elective surgeries, including cataract surgery, BNPL surgery increases patients’ access to timely treatment through the private system.
“Our patients who don’t have private health insurance can choose to avoid lengthy waiting times in the public system and, through buy now, pay later, have their surgery within days rather than years,” he said.
Patients accessing self-pay cataract surgery at VEI are also able to choose their preferred surgeon and select from a range of intraocular lenses.
Sexton said Latitude’s reputation as a leading financial services provider for the last 30 years played a significant role in VEI’s decision to partner with the firm.
He said patients have been delighted with the new payment option, which has been available since late last year.
Vision Eye Institute offers two self-pay products: LatitudePay, which funds treatments up to $1,000, and LatitudePay+, which funds treatments between $1,000 and $10,000. Payments can be made over six to 12 months.
VEI is Australia’s largest private ophthalmology provider, with 21 clinics and 10 day surgeries throughout New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia and Victoria.
