These tips included information on communication, teamwork and how to establish an effective clinical routine.Graduates also met with several of Specsavers’ Optometry Support Team, including director Mr Peter Larsen, development manager Dr Ben Ashby and development consultant Ms Naomi Barber.Aside from a strong focus on the franchise’s goal of providing affordable, high-quality eyecare, the induction also covered Specsavers’ community program. In addition to ongoing fundraising initiatives that benefit local charities, graduates learnt about the annual Outreach Program the company offers in partnership with the Fred Hollows Foundation. This provides graduates with the unique opportunity to travel overseas to improve their skills in underdeveloped countries.Throughout the induction, several competitions took place with prizes awarded for the top presentations summarising the event’s learning outcomes and the best photos taken each day. A ‘My Region Rules’ competition also gave the graduates the chance to get to know their regional Specsavers representatives and learn more about the locations in which they are practicing.A second Graduate Induction will take place in July when a further 40 graduates are expected to join from Deakin’s 2017 graduating cohort.
