Specsavers has been named as one of Australia’s Best Workplaces for 2023 by Great Place To Work, the global authority on workplace culture.
The optometry provider was ranked 8th in the Best Workplaces in Australia list in the large (1,000-plus employees) category.
The company said the recognition not only acknowledged its commitment to delivering exceptional eye and hearing care to Australians, but also highlighted its dedication to fostering a positive, inclusive, and vibrant work environment.
Australia’s Best Workplaces List is determined using The Great Place To Work For All methodology. The Great Place to Work Trust Index Survey enables employees to share confidential quantitative and qualitative feedback about their organisation’s culture by responding to 60 statements on a five-point scale and answering two open-ended questions.
Collectively, these statements describe a great employee experience, defined by high levels of trust, respect, credibility, fairness, pride, and camaraderie.
Mr Roland Wee, managing director of Great Place To Work Australia and New Zealand, congratulated the companies on the list.
“They are indeed Best Workplaces, as validated by the voices of their employees. In today’s talent market, businesses need to put their best foot forward to showcase their great workplace culture to retain high performing employees for the years to come,” he said.
“Companies who have made it onto this years’ Best Workplaces list are a testament to consistently improving and maintaining their great workplace culture practices.”
It is the first time Specsavers has been listed among Australia’s Best Workplaces, though it has been an accredited Great Place to Work organisation for the past three years.
Specsavers managing director Mr Paul Bott said the company is thrilled to be recognised as one of Australia’s Best Workplaces.
“Our people – our store partners and team members in-store and support office, are the heartbeat of our organisation, and this achievement is a reflection of their dedication and passion for what they do,” he said.
“Specsavers is, and has always been, a company built on great people. Our vision is to change lives through better sight and hearing, and it is our people who help make the difference to the lives of Australians every day.”
Some of the key qualities that were reviewed as part of the culture survey included Specsavers’ commitment to team development, how it lives by its values and behaviours, its approach to diversity and inclusion, and customer service.
Specsavers people director Ms Karen Clancy said the company is proud of its diverse and inclusive culture, where every individual is respected, valued, and empowered to bring their authentic selves to work.
“Every single person at Specsavers has played a part in creating a workplace culture that empowers everyone to be the best versions of themselves,” she said.
“This recognition is not just an end in itself, but a stepping stone on our journey to create an environment that fosters continuous growth, learning, and innovation.”
