Eyecare professionals are invited to explore the important links between the ocular surface, tear film, and contact lens materials during the ‘Contact Lens Comfort in Practice’ session at O=MEGA23/WCO4, taking place from 8-10 September in Melbourne.
The educational session, presented by event sponsor Alcon, will feature a panel discussion including international experts Professor Lyndon Jones (University of Waterloo, Canada), Professor Jennifer Craig (University of Auckland) and Professor Gregory Sawyer (University of Florida). They will address the persisting issue of discomfort as the primary cause of contact lens discontinuation, despite advancements in technology.
By the end of the session attendees are expected to understand how contact lens surfaces with low friction and low surface modulus can improve lubricity and reduce cell damage in corneal epithelial cell models, and the impact of a contact lens on the tear film and how this affects contact lens comfort.
Attendees will also learn about the various contact lens attributes contributing to discomfort, and the links between the ocular surface, tear film and contact lens materials, and its impact on contact lens experiences.
Eyecare professionals can expect to be equipped with practical strategies to manage ocular comfort for their patients, addressing any comfort-related issues they may encounter to enhance patient contact lens wearing experiences.
