In a move to elevate clinical excellence, the 2025 Specsavers Clinical Conference (SCC 2025) program will include a new practical workshop component featuring renowned Australian clinician-scientist Dr Kate Gifford.
The Getting to Grips with Binocular Vision session is designed for in-person delegates attending the event at Grand Hyatt, Melbourne, across the 13-14 September 2025 weekend. It will offer an immersive and rare opportunity to refine hands-on skills in a dynamic, real-world setting, Specsavers said.
Held on both Saturday and Sunday, the workshop will run concurrently with the main plenary sessions. Delegates will rotate through two interactive stations focused on advanced dry eye treatments and binocular vision assessment – considered two areas of growing importance in modern optometric care.
“But what truly sets this workshop apart is the presence of Dr Kate Gifford, a globally respected clinician-scientist and thought leader in myopia management and binocular vision,” Specsavers said.
“Based in Brisbane, Dr Gifford brings a wealth of experience and a passion for education that has inspired practitioners around the world.”
As co-founder of My Kids Vision and Myopia Profile, Dr Gifford has helped shape the global conversation around childhood myopia. Her accolades include being the youngest-ever national president of Optometry Australia, recipient of the inaugural British Contact Lens Association (BCLA) President’s Award, and recognition as one of the world’s Top Myopia Influencers in 2021. She is also a Visiting Research Fellow at Queensland University of Technology and a prolific author and speaker.
“Workshops like this are vital,” said Dr Gifford. “They bridge the gap between theory and practice, giving clinicians the confidence to apply advanced techniques in their everyday work.”
With limited spots available and registration on a first-come, first-served basis, organisers expect this workshop to fill quickly. Delegates may only attend one session, as both days offer identical content.
“Whether you’re looking to deepen your understanding of binocular vision or enhance your dry eye treatment techniques, this is a golden opportunity to learn from the best in the field,” Specsavers said.
“Don’t miss your chance to get hands-on with the future of eyecare.”
