The two major independent optometry groups in Australia, ProVision and Eyecare Plus, are planning joint events to encourage more employed optometrists to consider the benefits of becoming future independent practice owners.
The organisations will hold events in Melbourne (8 May 2024) and Sydney (17 & 18 May 2024, coinciding with O-SHOW24) designed to explain the independent model and answer questions about the benefits of independent practice ownership.
ProVision is the largest network of independent optometrists in Australia with 450 practices, while Eyecare Plus has 120 practices and is the country’s largest branded group of independents. In a joint statement, they said independents still make up the largest sector in the Australian optometry market and their future is bright.
These collaborative events will feature a brief presentation about the options available to optometrists, with a focus on the benefits of independent optometry. A panel of industry experts and independent practice owners, recent vendors, and buyers will be there to answer questions.
“Independence is rewarding on numerous levels,” said ProVsion CEO Mr Tony Jones.
“From being in control of decision making, to clinical freedom, then all the way to the commercial benefits and flexibility it provides. At ProVision, we assist owners at both ends of the journey and are delighted to see the high level of interest and engagement in the next generation of owners.”
Mr Martin Gregory, Eyecare Plus chairman, added: “It’s not for everybody, but those of us who choose to be independent are very passionate about it, and we strongly believe the benefits far outweigh any challenges.
“We’re looking for optometrists who are ambitious and are interested in the benefits of business ownership. It can seem daunting to purchase or start a new practice, so we’re running these events to help young optometrists see what a path to owning their own independent practice might look like.”
Whether optometrists are considering purchasing a practice, or starting a new one from scratch, these events are designed to answer key questions and provide confidence on how to move forward successfully.
