First introduced in 1978, the ‘P’8478’ sunglasses were one of the first frames on the market designed to offer interchangeable lenses. To commorate this, the brand has reissued a limited-edition 40th anniversary version, which will be released in mid-April and restricted to 1,978 pairs worldwide.{{quote-a:r-w:390-I:2-Q:“Our designers at Studio FA Porsche wanted to make something special, but they didn’t want to compromise the well-known iconic design. Previously, the frame and its hardware always matched.”The sunglasses are made with a light, matte-black titanium frame and a scratch-resistant, ‘unbreakable’ polycarbonate. Aside from gradient grey lenses, the frames also come with four pairs of interchangeable lenses in gradient blue, brown, mirrored olive/silver, and mirrored mercury/silver, along with a special commorative travel case.“Sunglasses are one of our biggest categories,” Engeln said.“It’s very important to the business. We work very closely with Rodenstock to ensure we maintain the highest quality products. Our glasses compete with many offered within the prium category, in terms of both technology and raw materials.”Porsche Design is distributed in Australia by Matrix Eyewear.
