Paul Clarke – Optical Dispensers Australia

Optical Dispensers Australia (ODA) has promoted Paul Clarke to the position of Advisory Board Chairperson. He is a highly prominent industry figure in Australia and a former International Opticians Association President. Clarke recently retired from Vision West Optometrists in the Perth suburb of Karrinyup where he was a co-owner and is now teaching optical dispensing at the University of Western Australia. “Paul is a wonderful advocate for our profession and brings a lot of experience and passion to his new role,” ODA stated.

 

 

 

 

Dr Helen Garrott – Vision Eye Institute

Dr Helen Garrott has also joined Vision Eye Institute at its Camberwell and Footscray clinics in Melbourne. She’s an internationally-trained ophthalmologist with more than 15 years of experience. She specialises in reconstructive eye surgery (oculoplastics) including orbital surgery, complex tear duct surgery and the management of eyelid cancers. She is also a leading specialist in thyroid eye disease and offers medical and surgical treatments for the condition.

 

 

 

 

Dr Christopher Go – Vision Eye Institute

Vision Eye Institute has also welcomed vitreoretinal subspecialist Dr Christopher Go to its network. Dr Go is consulting at the Hurstville and Tuggerah Lakes clinics in New South Wales and will also join the Drummoyne clinic in early December. He comes with extensive experience in the medical and surgical management of retinal and macular disorders. Having completed four clinical retinal fellowships in Liverpool (UK), Hong Kong, Melbourne and Taiwan, he is a skilled surgeon with internationally accredited expertise in complex vitreoretinal and cataract cases. He is also dedicated to research and training future doctors. He is fluent in English, Mandarin and Cantonese.

 

 

 

 

Scott Corning – Rayner

Rayner, a global manufacturer of products for cataract surgery based in the UK, has appointed Scott Corning as its Vice President, Americas. He comes with 25 years’ experience with brands and commercial teams within the ophthalmic pharmaceutical and medical device industries. Notably, he served as Senior Vice President, Commercial at Ocular Therapeutix and, prior to that, worked at Alcon in both the Surgical and Pharmaceutical divisions.

 

 

 

 

Marei von Brackel – HOYA

Marei von Brackel has been appointed as the new SA Sales Consultant for HOYA. With a wealth of professional experience in sales and key account management within the optical industry, her expertise “perfectly aligns with our company’s goals and vision”, HOYA stated. “Joining us with the aim of enhancing our sales department and contributing to the continued growth and success of HOYA Lens Australia, Marei brings unique skills and fresh insights that will greatly benefit both our team and our clients.”

 

 

 

 

Sheridan Keene – Centre for Eye Research Australia

Centre for Eye Research Australia (CERA) has announced Sheridan Keene as its new Laboratory and Facilities Manager, hot on the heels of opening the doors to its brand-new site. “This role is pivotal as we expand our research capabilities and continue to advance our mission to improve eye health and prevent vision loss. [She] will play a crucial part in ensuring our cutting-edge facilities run smoothly, supporting our researchers as they push the boundaries of ophthalmic science and innovation,” CERA stated. Keene was excited to see the new state-of-the-art facilities now match the high quality of research at CERA. “I can’t wait to see the research breakthroughs that emerge over the next few years in our new facilities,” she said.

 

 

Annette Hoskin – ISO – International Organization for Standardization

Annette Hoskin is taking on the position of Chair of ISO – International Organization for Standardization’s Technical Commitee for Personal Safety (ISO TC 94) in 2025. It is responsible for developing standards for eye and face, foot, head, falls and respiratory protection, in addition to firefighters and protective clothing. “I will be Chair-elect until Russell Shephard steps down at the end of 2024 after an incredibly successful tenure. I am looking forward to the opportunity to contribute to developing standards to safeguard wearers and working with the incredible experts in these committees,” she said. Standards Australia put her forward for the role.

 

 

Girisha Chandraraj – Hilco Vision

Hilco Vision welcomes Girisha Chandraraj as its new CEO. The company is a member of the Windjammer Capital Investors family of companies. “The background Girisha brings to the CEO role will allow Hilco Vision to build on its brands, distribution partnerships and infrastructure capabilities to continue to meet customer needs in the rapidly changing area of eye health,” said Matt Anderson, managing director at Windjammer Capital.
