Dylan Oblein – 1001 Optical
Experienced optical industry figure Mr Dylan Oblein has been promoted to general manager of 1001 Optical, an independent family-owned business with 15 boutique practices across Australia. After joining the company in September 2023, he previously held regional manager and national sales manager roles. He has almost 20 years of optometry industry experience, holding roles at Luxottica, Specsavers, George & Matilda and Eyecare Plus.
Justin Untersteiner – Ahpra
The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) has appointed Mr Justin Untersteiner as chief executive officer. Untersteiner, who will join in April, brings more than 20 years’ experience in regulation and compliance, most recently as chief operating officer at the Australian Financial Complaints Authority. Ahpra board chair Ms Gill Callister PSM said Untersteiner was an impressive leader who stood out in a field of domestic and international candidates.
Jennifer Lambert – CooperVision
Ms Jennifer Lambert, who has spent the past four years as senior director, Global Myopia Management, has been appointed to the new role of vice president, Myopia Management & Cornea Care, at CooperVision. Lambert’s role is part of a move by the company to transform its myopia category and combat the global epidemic. It has elevated the myopia management group within its global commercial structure and plans to add other managerial roles specific to customer engagement and new product market development.
Dr Jeremy Diamond – Vision Eye Institute
Experienced UK ophthalmologist Dr Jeremy Diamond has made the move Down Under and has joined the team at Vision Eye Institute Boronia. He offers care for a range of eye conditions and surgical procedures and has performed over 15,000 cataract and glaucoma surgeries and led the glaucoma department at the prestigious Bristol Eye Hospital for 20 years. Additionally, Dr Diamond has authored over 50 research papers and textbook chapters, achieved a PhD and received eleven research grants.
Antonio Monteiro – Vision Eye Institute
Antonio Monteiro, previously a member of Vision Eye Institute’s finance team, has returned in 2025 as general manager for Victoria. He oversees the state’s consulting practices and also has commercial oversight of our Vision Hospital Group day surgeries in Victoria. During his time away from VEI, he held senior positions at Healthscope as its commercial manager (Data & Analytics) and at St Vincent’s Health Australia as its strategy consultant. He has a strong background in financial management, operational efficiencies, data analytics, and strategic planning. He is passionate about improving the healthcare experience for patients and believes in the power of collaboration to drive innovation and growth.
Hirdesh Nair – J&J Vision Care
Johnson & Johnson Vision Care has announced Hirdesh Nair’s transition to regional sales manager (VIC/TAS, SA, NZ, WA). Hirdesh’s six-year tenure as professional development manager has seen him drive key initiatives like JNJVISIONPRO and significant contributions to product launches and industry engagement. His experience and leadership will continue to elevate ACUVUE’s market impact, the company said.
Dr Shivanand Sheth – Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital
Dr Shivanand Sheth has formally commenced in the role as Head of the Ocular Motility Unit at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital. It’s the only strabismus clinic in Australia that provides medical and surgical management for patients of all ages with simple to complex ocular motility problems such as strabismus, nystagmus and diplopia. “I aim to ensure that the Ocular Motility Clinic continues to be a centre of excellence for patient care and also remains a destination of choice for the brightest ophthalmologists around the world to undertake a fellowship in this amazing ophthalmic sub-specialty,” he said. “I thank Dr. Lionel Kowal for his years of service as the Head of Unit and I certainly have big shoes to fill.”
