Orthoptics Australia (OA) is marking its annual awareness week with a five-article series, featuring orthoptists who are advancing eye research and contributing to innovative models of care across the country.
This year’s Orthoptics Awareness Week (OAW) is being celebrated from the 31 May to 4 June and will be promoted in the lead up to World Orthoptic Day which is held on the first Monday of June each year (7 June).
The 2021 campaign’s main focus will be on the expertise of orthoptists when it comes to providing integrated pathways into ever expanding patient volumes through eye clinics, and advancements in eye research
In partnership with Insight, OA will be featuring a selection of articles written by orthoptists working around Australia. Themed ‘A day in the life of an orthoptist – Through my eyes’, it aims to highlight the valuable work orthoptists are doing across Australia in difference workplace settings. The articles include the following topics:
- Sachinee Jayasuriya – Lions Eye Institute – The role of an orthoptist in clinical trials.
- Marion Gaussen – Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital – Playing a greater role in glaucoma care.
- Nabill Jacob – Vision Australia – Blindness, low vision and the orthoptic assessment.
- Darvy Dang – Centre for Eye Research Australia – Clinical research and a new retinal camera.
- Linden Chen – Marsden Eye Specialists – No day the same in this orthoptist’s clinic.
As part of the campaign, OA is also providing an OAW poster/flyer that can be printed and posted around clinics and workplaces, handed out or used on social media. Another resource is the 2021 OAW logo that can also be used on social media or as an email signature.
“Join us in celebrating and promoting OAW 2020 by following Orthoptics Australia on social media via Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, and by sharing our featured articles written by fellow orthoptists using the hashtag #OAW2021,” the association said.
