Optos has appointed global vision care executive Alexandre Montague from France as its new chief executive officer, stating he brings more than two decades of ophthalmic leadership experience and a passion for innovation, prevention and improving patient outcomes worldwide.
Optos, a leader in ultra-widefield (UWF) retinal imaging, said in a media release on 9 June 2026, that the appointment was effective immediately.
“Montague brings nearly 25 years of global healthcare, ophthalmology, and vision care leadership experience, with a strong track record of building high-performing organisations, advancing innovation, and expanding access to technologies that support earlier detection, prevention, and improved patient outcomes,” Optos said.
“He most recently served as CEO of Hoya Vision Care, where he led a global organisation spanning 20,000 employees and operations across 35 subsidiaries worldwide.”
Montague said Optos has a powerful sense of purpose and “an extraordinary opportunity to continue advancing eye care worldwide”.
“The company’s commitment to innovation, clinical excellence, and enabling health care professionals to improve patient outcomes strongly resonates with me,” he said.
“I look forward to building on the well-established Optos foundation, supporting our customers, empowering our talented teams, and expanding our impact.”
He said if the company’s focus is purposeful, making meaningful investments, for patients, clinicians, and society, the results will follow.
“If we act early enough, we can change outcomes for entire generations,” he said.
Montague previously held senior leadership positions at Essilor and Zeiss, building expertise across ophthalmic devices, optics, vision care, and medical technology.
