Registrations have opened for Optometry Australia’s annual national education conference, Optometry Virtually Connected, taking place 17-18 June 2023.
Since its launch in 2020, OA says the virtual event has become one of the leading optometric education forums in the Southern Hemisphere, returning by popular demand for a fourth year of CPD learning.
Delegates will be invited from across Australia and New Zealand as part of an international conference partnership with the New Zealand Associations of Optometrists.
The 2023 live CPD program offers a comprehensive education experience and opens with keynote speaker Professor Andrew Turpin, who will explore AI, machine learning, deep learning, and why the flood of data now available in care settings is under-utilised.
He headlines a program featuring up to 22 hours of quality-assured clinical content to help optometrists with their CPD learning requirements over one weekend.
The event will be divided into two concurrent streams on each day, with each stream featuring presentations on a particular major topic. On day 1 (17 June), the first stream will feature presentations on dry eye, and the second on myopia. On day 2 (18 June), the two streams will feature contact lenses and systemic diseases, respectively.
“The conference program offers a flexible format that allows attendees to maintain patient appointments in-between webcasts or attend at their convenience throughout the weekend,” OA stated.
“The event gives delegates a cost-effective and convenient option accessible from the comfort of home, with no travel or accommodation expenses required.”
Day 2 will open with a plenary presentation entitled ‘Public health and Indigenous eye health: Optometry needs to do more’, and will be presented by Professor Isabelle Jalbert, Professor Sharon Bentley, and Professor Fiona Stapleton.
All hours that delegates spend attending Optometry Virtually Connected sessions, plus any assessments undertaken, will be uploaded directly into their Learning Plan.
This year’s event will be hosted on the Joyn platform, which is now live and will be updated as the conference draws near. Delegates are asked to take time to explore the speakers, education sessions, product showcase, and read the frequently asked questions.
Registrations are free for OA members. To register, delegates can go to OA’s event platform’s registration page: https://ovc.joyn-us.app/registration/new
