Optical Dispensers Australia (ODA) is running a national industry survey to paint a clearer picture of the wages, employment conditions, and career experiences of optical dispensers and affiliated roles.
The organisation launched the survey on 8 April 2025 that can be completed anonymously by optical dispensers, optical assistants, practice managers, locums and support staff.
Within hours, it had around 200 responses.
“By participating in this national wage survey, you will provide ODA with crucial data on current employment conditions,” CEO Ms April Petrusma said.
“This information is necessary for us to be able to advocate for fair compensation, industry standards, and to continue supporting professional development.”
Other information the survey will gather includes the proportion of optical dispensers and affiliated roles in corporate vs. independent settings, average hours worked, and whether respondents think they receive a fair wage.
It will also shed light on national industry pay awards, and how many respondents are remunerated according to the General Retail Industry Award, Health Professionals and Support Services Award, or other agreements.
All responses are anonymous. By participating, respondents agree to have the information they share published as part of the survey results. This survey is not collecting names or contact information and no personal or identifying details will be shared in any way.
The survey can be accessed here.
