The OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation had a landmark year in 2022, rebranding and expanding as part of its commitment to eliminating uncorrected poor vision.
Globally, the OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation is a French registered charitable organisation reflecting the commitment of EssilorLuxottica to eliminating uncorrected poor vision in a generation.
It was rebranded in 2022 to bring together EssilorLuxottica’s philantrophic, advocacy actions and investments including: Vision for Life, Essilor Vision Foundations in North America, India, Southeast Asia and China, Fondazione Salmoiraghi & Vigano’ in Italy as well as the Company’s long term global partners OneSight and the Vision Impact Institute. Headquartered in Paris, the Foundation has created sustainable access to vision care to millions of people in underserved communities around the world.
The foundation has had a long-standing presence as a registered charity (34008540547) in Australia and New Zealand, providing vision care access to those in need regionally for over two decades.
It hosted a number of free vision clinics in Australia and New Zealand last year, including one which served students from five schools in Townsville.
Ms Eugenia Chan, an optometrist at OPSM, had the opportunity to help provide vision care to nearly 800 children at the Townsville vision clinic.
“I found the clinic to be an eye-opening, challenging, and rewarding experience. I was proud of our collaborative mission to overcome barriers in accessing vision care and alleviating the burden from preventable visual impairment on individual and community levels. It really reminded me of why ‘I care’ and work in eyecare,” she said.
“Vision plays such an important role in the physical, cognitive, and social development of children. I am grateful we were able to connect meaningfully with the wider community and positively impact these children’s lives.”
The OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation believes good vision is a basic human right and seeks to help expand vision care access to the 2.7 billion people globally who suffer from uncorrected poor vision.
The foundation focuses on partnering with community leaders, non-government organisations and like-minded private organisations to create sustainable access to vision care, provide free eye exams and glasses for those most in need, fund local vision care programs and raise awareness of the importance of vision care among policy makers.
