According to the vendors, their decision to now offer the business for sale was based upon their need for a plan for transition to a future retirent, while also ensuring that Eye Talk services will be ongoing.ODMA, the representative body for wholesalers, importers and manufacturers of frames, lenses, sunglasses, equipment and accessories, believes the purchase is an outstanding fit because Eye Talk caters for the independent optometry market on which ODMA’s mbers rely and because the reference content is mainly provided by ODMA’s mbers. The identity of Eye Talk will be retained but the magazine will gradually be absorbed into ODMA so that the two are synonymous.Mrs McCann commented that an important factor in the decision was the need to protect Eye Talk’s long-term subscribers who rely upon the information that the publication provides.Acquisition of Eye Talk will provide a second, more regular source of income for ODMA and provide much-needed administrative support to ODMA. A full-time manager reporting to ODMA’s chief executive officer Finola Carey will be appointed in the next few months. All current [part-time] staff will be continuing in the publication’s business and no significant changes are expected in the operations.Mrs McCann and Dr Hanks have expressed their thanks to subscribers, the suppliers who advertise and their staff. The publication is used by optometrists, optical dispensers and practice staff. Its sale to ODMA includes the Reference Guide, the Digital Data Download Service.
