Optical Dispensers Australia (ODA) has confirmed a series of changes to its advisory board, including the retirement of long-serving chairperson Paul Clarke and the appointment of new Australian and New Zealand representatives.
ODA CEO April Petrusma confirmed the retirement of four advisory board members: James Gibbins (NSW), Jessica Kingsley (SA), Todd Spencer (VIC), and Paul Clarke (WA), marking the end of a significant chapter for the organisation.
“It is with the utmost gratitude – and a touch of sadness – that we announce the retirement of ODA chairperson Paul Clarke,” Petrusma said. “This year marks Paul’s 50th year in optics, the perfect time for him to put down his dispensing tools and embrace the open road.”

Clarke has been involved with ODA since its inception and is widely recognised across the profession for his contributions to education, events, and industry engagement.
“Many know him as the charismatic MC at our conferences and galas, the expert teacher of repairs workshops, and the friendly face at our trade show stands,” Petrusma said.
“His knowledge, skill, and passion for optics know no bounds, and we will be forever grateful for the time, energy, and enthusiasm he has dedicated to our organisation.”
As part of the transition, Allyson Caffell has stepped into the role of ODA chairperson.

“Allyson brings a deep understanding of our organisation, a strong commitment to the dispensing profession, and a clear vision for the future of ODA,” Petrusma said. “Her dedication, leadership, and passion make her the ideal person to build on Paul’s remarkable legacy.”
ODA has also announced six new advisory board appointments across Australia and New Zealand:
-
Jennifer Blackwell (TAS) – Practice manager, Vivid Optical Launceston (George and Matilda boutique practice).
-
Belinda Musitano (WA) – Director, Eyes@Optometry.
-
Patricia Rogers (SA) – National sales manager, ZEISS.
-
Alison Middleton (SA) – Senior optical dispenser, Holdfastbay Optometry Glenelg.
-
Mahafrin Palsetia (NZ North) – Dispensing optician, Gary Filer Optometrist Auckland.
-
Jess Thompson (NZ South) – Dispensing optician, Matthews Eyewear Motueka.
Looking ahead, Petrusma said the refreshed advisory board is already shaping priorities for the year ahead.
“I am genuinely excited for 2026. With an incredibly dedicated advisory board and a wealth of new ideas already taking shape, the year ahead promises to be a significant one,” she said.
“A key focus will be delivering more hands-on educational opportunities across Australia and New Zealand, providing our dispensing community with high-quality, in-demand CPD and training that addresses a long-standing need for accessible, practical professional development.”
