The Brien Holden Vision Institute (BHVI) is establishing a new educational course to equip eyecare professionals with the business skills needed to ensure myopia management is an effective arm of their practice.
Beginning 20 August, The Business of Myopia forms the third component of BHVI’s Myopia Education Program, and will provide participants with the practical knowledge and skills necessary when preparing for myopia-related care.
“They will learn to create a marketing strategy to promote and expand their practice, and receive crucial guidance in business process, patient communications and education,” Ms Yvette Waddell, BHVI CEO, said.
In its promotional video for the program, BHVI also identifies other key considerations, including equipment, staff training, billing and the explanation of complex topics, such as peripheral hyperopia, to patients.
The new program joins BHVI’s existing Course 1: Managing Myopia and Course 2: Complex Cases. Both utilised interactive case studies to guide practitioners through their learning, along with polls, questions and videos. They also allowed participants to engage in case-based discussions with global experts.
“Course 1 revolutionised the profession’s understanding of myopia management with the latest research and clinical procedures for practitioner’s to implement and consequently limit myopia progression in their patients,” Waddell said.
“Course 2 gave practitioners the tools needed to feel confident with cases that are more complex. Now, Course 3: The Business of Myopia, takes that practical knowledge to the next level – teaching participants to set up their practice for myopia management – and maintain success.”
According to BHVI, the overall Myopia Education Program has received an overwhelming response from the profession. In total, 100% of participants stated they had gained confidence in managing myopia, with 98% changing the way they practice upon completion.
The Business of Myopia is accredited for continuing education points by the Council on Optometric Practitioner Education, General Optical Council, Optometry Australia and the Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians Board for practitioners across North America, UK, Europe and the Asia Pacific.
Early bird registrations are open, however intakes are limited and close 30 July.
