The first daily disposable silicone hydrogel soft contact lenses specifically designed for slowing the progression of myopia in children*1 has now launched in Australia.

Johnson & Johnson Vision (J&J) debuted ACUVUE Abiliti 1-Day Soft Therapeutic Lenses for Myopia Management at the Optometry Clinical Conference in Melbourne on 17-18 August 2025.

To mark the occasion, J&J hosted a breakfast session featuring presentations by Dr Emma Gillies and Mr Alex Petty on the novel optics, paediatric design, and key features and benefits of Abiliti 1-Day.

Petty, principal optometrist and director of Bay Eye Care, shared real-world examples of how the lens is directly impacting his patient care and myopia management practice.

Attendees learned that Abiliti 1-Day lenses are inspired by the paediatric eye,¥2 with a smaller diameter for improved insertion and removal, and made from the same silicone hydrogel material as ACUVUE OASYS 1-Day.3

Featuring J&J’s RingBoost technology,1 Abiliti 1-Day has shown to be ~2X as effective at managing myopia compared to a dual focus lens,§˄4 the company said. Furthermore, nearly 65% of children’s eyes wearing Abiliti 1-Day showed little to no myopia progression† over the course of two years.4

A few days later, J&J hosted a virtual webinar during which more than 1,000 viewers tuned in to hear presentations from Associate Professor Noel Brennan, Dr Xu Cheng and Petty on the technology and impact of Abiliti 1-Day.

Optometrists interested in adding Abiliti 1-Day to their myopia management toolkit can take the first step by completing the ACUVUE® Abiliti 1-Day Accreditation Program on JNJVISIONPRO.
