A poll of 1,144 Australian residents carried out by ReachTEL for the Medical Technology Association of Australia (MTAA) showed that 69.2% cent of respondents considered downgrading or dropping their policy in the past 12 months, which is largely in line with a recent Federal Government survey of 40,000 people. A higher 75.4% of people aged 18-34 had considered taking the same action.The result was attributed to prium rises, which MTAA chief executive Ms Susi Tegen said had increased by approximately 35% from 2010 to 2015. 69.2% have considered downgrading or dropping their policy in the past 12 months because it doesn’t represent good value for money, she stated.It was also reported that 90% of respondents were concerned the funds were trying to ‘Americanise’ the Australian health syst to boost their bottom lines.Government figures show the percentage of people with private health insurance cover decreased for the first time in 15 years in the June quarter of this year, falling from 47.4% to 47%.
