HOYA Vision Care has launched a new breakthrough in lens technology, unveiling Smooth Touch Xtreme (STX) – its first top-coating innovation in 25 years – that can now support the active lifestyles of children wearing the company’s MiYOSMART myopia control lenses.
This coating provides long-lasting hydrophobic performance which keeps lenses cleaner for longer, the company said.
Marking a major development in lens technology, STX top coating is designed to withstand the realities of childhood wear and tear. According to HOYA, it repels water, fingerprints, dirt, and grease more effectively than the previous generation, while preserving the performance of the other lens coatings.
“The result? Long-lasting spectacle lens cleanness and consistently clearer vision, even after up to 2.7 years of typical use,”1 HOYA said.
The innovation is particularly significant for younger children, who often need to clean their glasses more frequently due to their active lifestyles. Whether climbing playground structures, exploring outdoors, eating or handling their glasses, children’s lenses are more prone to dirt and smudging than adults’, the company said.
“Outdoor play is not just a joyful part of childhood, but a vital contribution towards healthy eye development,” HOYA stated.
“The exposure to natural light, physical activity, and ability to focus on distant objects have all been shown to help delay the onset and even slow the progression of myopia in children.”2
With clearer lenses designed to cope with these challenges, HOYA said MiYOSMART wearers can “confidently embrace every adventure without limits”.
The new top coating adds to HOYA’s 60-plus-year track record in lens coating technology, from developing the first anti-reflective treatment for mineral glass to applying anti-reflection coatings to organic lenses.
