EssilorLuxottica and Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses are facing competition from a major player.
Google has announced a partnership with Korean eyewear designer Gentle Monster and American retailer Warby Parker to deliver its own version of AI-powered smart glasses.
In a media release, Google said its glasses would be able to look up directions, take photos and send messages.
It said it would release the initial models in the Northern Hemisphere Autumn and would include audio access to Google’s voice assistant so users can interact and ask questions.
Google said it planned to develop built-in displays and other augmented reality (AR) options.
It is believed the glasses will also be synced and connected to users’ phones, helping them to reference and relay information back and forth.
