George & Matilda Eyecare has announced the acquisition of two new practices, growing its presence in Queensland.
It has partnered with well-established practices at Main Beach and Sanctuary Cove, owned and operated by optometrist Mr Michael Jackson, who has 25 years’ experience in the industry.
A media release said the new partnership “reinforces George & Matilda Eyecare’s commitment to expanding its network while upholding the high standards of care and service that patients across Australia have come to expect”.
“George & Matilda Eyecare now proudly supports over 100 communities, ensuring continuity of care, business growth, and professional autonomy for optometrists.”
The latest acquisition follows the recent partnership with National Optical Care and its 26 practices, which was the largest acquisition since G&M’s very first in 2016.
Jackson said joining George & Matilda Eyecare was a strategic decision driven by the changing landscape of optometry.
“There’s a shift in the industry where younger optometrists are seeking more flexibility, particularly with part-time work and managing larger financial commitments,” he said.
“I realised that selling to a corporate model was inevitable to achieve my personal goals, and George & Matilda was the perfect fit.
“They allow us to maintain our independent spirit while managing the increasing regulatory and financial pressures on practices. Having a larger entity to support us makes it more sustainable in the long term.”
He said his experience working with the George & Matilda Eyecare team had been positive.
“After 12 months of discussions, we worked through all areas of concern. While there were points of contention, the team’s professionalism made the process straightforward, and we were able to find solutions that worked for everyone.
“Life is too short to wait,” said Jackson. “The profession is changing, and it’s important to consider your options before the market shifts further.
“George & Matilda offer a great opportunity to step back or step out while ensuring your practice continues to thrive.”
Jackson initially pursued a PhD in science but chose optometry to work more directly with people and develop business skills.
Over the years, he has owned three practices, starting with Ballina before opening his practice in Sanctuary Cove 10 years ago and Main Beach 4 years later.
The release said he was known for providing “good old-fashioned service” combined with premium frames and lenses, and the practices prided themselves on solving the unique vision needs of their patients.
“We take the time to ensure our patients leave with sound advice and solutions that truly work for them,” he said.
