The Eiffel Tower, visiting a cat cafe, seeing Frozen the Musical and going to a rainforest.
Those are among the items on the ‘bucket list’ of a British teen keen to load up on as many experiences as possible before Usher syndrome steals her sight.
Thirteen-year-old Audrey Tyrell was diagnosed with the syndrome, a rare condition that causes hearing and vision loss, when she was 10.
She and her mother, Tracey Tyrell, told UK television show This Morning that they knew something was not right when Audrey started having difficulty seeing in low light.
“When I was in the dark, I couldn’t see as much as normal people could and my parents picked up on it,” the daughter said on the show.
The family visited Great Ormond Street Hospital in London, where she was tested and diagnosed with type 2 of the disorder, which causes moderate to severe symptoms.
Symptoms of the condition are typically present at birth or develop during childhood.
Audrey’s mother said vision loss could happen “any time from now”, which is why they came up with the idea to create a bucket list of experiences she can enjoy before losing her sight.
“We didn’t want to sit around waiting for something like that to happen and then wishing that we’d done certain things, or seen certain things, made certain memories,” she said.
Having ticked off the Eiffel Tower in Paris and Frozen the Musical, among other things, Audrey’s colourful, handwritten list revealed she is also keen to visit Vatican City, go on a cruise, run a marathon, swim with dolphins and visit the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
