The Fred Hollows Foundation has opened public voting for the 2024 Fred Awards, as part of the annual Fred and Humanity Awards.
The Fred and Humanity Awards celebrate Australians who care for others in a decent, practical and no-nonsense manner – just like Fred did.
In a media release, the foundation said that two finalists had been named in this year’s Fred Awards – Ms Vi Bui, who has dedicated her life to helping those affected by hearing loss, and Ms Beryl Paul, who has spent more than three decades knitting and crocheting for charity.
The foundation is encouraging Australians to cast their vote to determine who will be named as 2024 Humanitarian at The Fred and Humanity Awards ceremony on 11 November at The University of Sydney.
Ms Gabi Hollows, founding director of the foundation, said: “Fred believed that Australians had an amazing ability to care for others and help those in need.
“The Fred and Humanity Awards are our way to give back to the community which has kept Fred’s vision alive for over three decades.
“Congratulations to every single nominee for the amazing contributions that you’ve made in your communities.”
The release said the Fred and Humanity Awards ceremony would also name eight Junior Ambassadors, Year 6 students who walk in Fred’s footsteps and show kindness, compassion, and integrity in their everyday lives.
Australians are invited to cast their vote for the 2024 Humanitarian of the Year at hollows.org/au/fredawards-vote before 21 October.
