Flinders Uni builds on optometry service to provide all-round healthcare

The university’s Flinders Vision optometry service – which has been in operation for the past six years – has been renamed Flinders Health2GO and repositioned to also provide physiotherapy, hearing and speech pathology services.The clinic, at the university’s Bedford Park campus in Adelaide, has been designed to combine the latest research and technology, and will train the next generation of health care professionals by offering placents for College of Nursing and Health Sciences students.The health centre will continue to offer its optometry services, as well as its diabetic eye clinic, and stroke and brain injury rehabilitation clinic. The facility also houses Australia’s only Autism Centre, and operates clinics dedicated to children’s vision, low vision and contact lenses, and conducts examinations for aviation, sport and occupational requirents.{{quote-A:R-W:400-I:2-Q:It’s a ‘one-stop shop’ for people who need to check out their eyes, hearing, exercise and nutrition advice and generally how they can take better care of thselves” -who:Alison Kitson, Flinders University}}Health2GO clinic manager Mr David Jacobs said the new-look facility would operate as a standard practice open to the general public, and offer improved treatment services to Flinders’ domestic and international students, staff and their families.“Our focus is on delivering the highest standards of advice and care to our clients. We are also in the process of expanding the range of services we offer to help meet some of the service gaps in the local health care market,” he said.Professor Alison Kitson, vice-president and executive dean of Flinders College of Nursing and Health Sciences, said the clinic would strengthen clinical training opportunities.“This is a great initiative for the public and for our students.
