This is a story for anyone who doubts the power of celebrity to shift product and move the financial dial.
Shares of Italian eyewear maker iVision Tech jumped 28% on Friday.
The reason? French President Emmanuel Macron chose to wear a pair of the company’s aviator sunglasses during his speech at the annual World Economic Forum in Davos.
The French leader was wearing the glasses indoors to protect his eyes because of a burst blood vessel.
Macron’s office did not divulge the brand of the glasses but his appearance went viral and observers soon identified them as iVision Tech’s Pacific S 01 glasses, which sell for 659 euros (AU$1130) on its website.
iVision Tech CEO Stefano Fulchir told Reuters the interest “certainly created a wow effect on the stock”.
The share rally added around 3.5 million euros (AU$6 million) to the company’s market capitalisation.
