Italian eyewear company Safilo Group has joined The Fashion Pact, a global coalition of more than 60 companies in the fashion and textile industry committed to core environmental goals.
The ready-to-wear, sport, lifestyle and luxury fashion industries, including their suppliers and distributors, are committed to environmental goals in three key areas: stopping global warming, restoring biodiversity and protecting the oceans.
Safilo Group, which designs, produces and distributes prescription frames, sunglasses, sports eyewear, and ski goggles under its own five house brands and 32 licensed brands, said becoming a signatory of The Fashion Pact is part of its purpose-led strategy based on three sustainability pillars: planet, product, and people.
“It represents a further step confirming the Group’s commitment to develop projects and initiatives that address the global challenges of tomorrow in the areas of climate, oceans and biodiversity, as per The Fashion Pact mission and priorities,” the company stated.
Launched in 2019, The Fashion Pact’s signatories have committed to science-based targets to achieve net-zero carbon impact by 2050. These include implementing the principles of the UN Fashion Charter, achieving 25% low-impact materials sourcing by 2025, achieving 50% renewable energy by 2025, and 100% by 2030 in their own operations.
Safilo Group will next year introduce Eastman Tenite Renew in its sunglass and prescription collections, and in doing so will become the first manufacturer and distributor in the eyewear industry to use all Eastman Renew materials in its portfolio.
