Two of Australia’s leading experts in macular research – Professor Robyn Guymer AM and Associate Professor Zhichao Wu from the Centre for Eye Research Australia (CERA) – will headline an event in November exploring the latest advances in understanding and managing geographic atrophy (GA).
GA is a leading cause of irreversible vision loss in age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
The CPD education event – Filling the Blind Spots: New Perspectives in Geographic Atrophy – is hosted by Astellas Pharma and will be held on November 6 at CERA’s Seminar Room, Level 10, 200 Victoria Parade, Melbourne.
Interested optometrists and eyecare professionals can also participate online.
Astellas Pharma said Prof Guyner and A/Prof Wu would share insights from cutting-edge research into advances in multimodal imaging that are transforming how clinicians identify, monitor, and manage GA in practice.
Participants will also hear about:
- Updates on best practice standards for diagnosis, including how to interpret OCT and fundus autofluorescence findings for accurate staging and progression monitoring.
- Practical guidance to support timely detection and referral, ensuring patients have access to emerging treatment options.
- A deeper understanding of the role of the complement pathway in the pathogenesis of GA and how novel inhibitors may impact the treatment landscape.
