Sukanya Iyer has enjoyed a steep career rise at EssilorLuxottica in Australia, commencing as an optical dispenser at an OPSM in Sydney’s northwest during university before an opportunity arose to start her optometrist career in the same practice post-graduation.
Recently, she made the transition to the ACT where she is now the managing optometrist at OPSM Canberra and Langley Eyecare – and part of an expanding eyecare leadership team within EssilorLuxottica.
In fact, Iyer is among more than 50 managing optometrists now across the ANZ network. They are considered a diverse group of passionate and influential optometrists who coach the in-store optometrists and build partnerships with the store team to deliver high quality eyecare.
“I have found the EssilorLuxottica team in Canberra to be so welcoming,” she said.
“I’ve put in some good work to establish my presence in a practice that has only recently joined the EssilorLuxottica network, helping to make the transition as easy as possible for the patients, and have now been given the privilege and opportunity to lead the optometry team across two of the stores in Canberra city.”
Iyer said what she enjoyed most about working at EssilorLuxottica is the community spirit within the company.
“Everyone I work with wants to make sure that the optometry team excels clinically and remains fulfilled in our role to provide great eyecare to the community,” she said.
“It has been absolutely fantastic to work with both teams and elevate the premium eyecare across both stores as well.”
With a significant presence of more than 430 stores across Australia and New Zealand, EssilorLuxottica said it has a myriad of career opportunities and a robust support network to nurture the development of optometrists.
According to the company, each year the business invests in a growing number of roles to address emerging eyecare trends and engage optometrists with the profession through the different stages in their career.
“Optometry is evolving as a profession, presenting new opportunities for eyecare professionals to expand on their knowledge and scope,” EssilorLuxottica stated.
“With the changing landscape, now more than ever, optometrists are looking for work that is meaningful, and opportunities to continuously learn and develop.”
Iyer is among a growing number of early career optometrists in Australia and New Zealand to have accelerated their career through EssilorLuxottica’s tailored support and development programs.
