Non-profit organisation Eyes For Life Canberra (EFLC) is hosting a professional development seminar for optometrists to learn about vision impairment from a person living with retinitis pigmentosa and understand the work of an occupational therapist.
The seminar, to be held on 14 March, is designed to provide optometrists with an understanding of the adjustment period that people with a vision impairment experience with demonstrations of the changes they encounter.
It will be held in-person at the Griffin Centre in Canberra’s CBD as well as online.
The seminar will consist of two presentations from Ms Jessica Zuzic, an occupational therapist from Guide Dogs NSW/ACT and Ms Stephanie Creaser who lives with retinitis pigmentosa alongside her twin.
Creaser will talk about the experiences her, and her twin have come across in their lives and the different ways they both operate in their day-to-day.
Zuzic will explore what it’s like working as an occupational therapist with people with a vision impairment to help maintain their independence and confidence.
The seminar will include an opportunity for questions and answers as well as a discussion of the services available after there is nothing left to do from an optometry perspective.
