Hyperparallel OCT (HP-OCT) manufacturer Cylite has released an upgrade to its Focus software, offering usability improvements and new features to further increase the device’s functionality.
The HP-OCT is said to create – for the first time – true volumetric OCT images of the eye, delivering additional insights that help clinicians to make more informed decisions for their patients.
It works by scanning the eye with 1,008 simultaneous, parallel beamlets in a series of snapshot captures, achieving scanning speeds of over 300,000 scans per second.
This approach is said to neutralise eye motion artefacts for each snapshot, which are combined to produce true-volume 3D images of the anterior and posterior segments, as well as generating axial length.
The software upgrade is the second major release for the Melbourne-based company since launching in September 2023.
“The software interface has been updated to further optimise its ease-of-use, including the creation of a suite of new default reports and the ability for the user to create report templates of their own,” Cylite said.
“This, along with the ability to choose the size, orientation and content of report views, gives the user great flexibility on how they can personalise reports according to their preferences.”
The upgrade also introduces a new refractive power map, which uses the unique Hyperparallel volumetric images to calculate the total corneal power based on both the anterior and posterior corneal surfaces.
In comparison, Cylite said Placido-ring technology only uses the anterior surface while assuming the effect of the posterior corneal surface.
The addition of the refractive power map is said to also be useful for orthoK purposes when displayed as a difference map.
Other corneal additions include new topography map overlays and more flexible elevation map features. Along with this, a new anterior imaging scan is now offered, which the company said is useful when scanning contact lenses on eye and for imaging external eye features.
The software upgrade also improves device usability when used for the back of the eye with greater automation of retinal scans. This is said to streamline the process of scanning the retina.
Cylite said it will roll out the software for free to its customers and will now focus on a new tranche of upcoming features.
