CR Surfacing celebrates 40 years

Established in 1976, CR Surfacing is understood to be the third largest lens supplier to the Australian market and the largest Australian lens manufacturer.{{quote-A:R-W:450-I:2-Q: Automation and new processing technologies will continue to be developed to produce an even [higher] standard, -WHO:Mr Adam Fletcher, CR Surfacing managing director}}The company ploys more than 45 Australians and services more than 400 independent optical practices daily.“Over the past 40 years we have seen the introduction of multinationals on a large scale, moving manufacturing to low-cost, offshore sites,” CR Surfacing managing director Mr Adam Fletcher commented.Reflecting on some of the company’s milestones, he noted that CR Surfacing had been through many changes.Twelve years ago, the company introduced anti-reflective coating at its laboratory. This was followed two years later by the use of free-form technology.Eight years ago, processing automation was introduced into CR Surfacing’s manufacturing facilities, allowing for a more efficient and refined lens creation process.{{image3-a:r-w:300}}Then, earlier this year, CR Surfacing moved into a new high-tech facility to accommodate the company’s expansion.“Automation and new processing technologies will continue to be developed to produce an even [higher] standard,” Mr Fletcher stated.“CR Surfacing Laboratories continues to work closely with global design and manufacturing leaders. We have recently invested a further AU$3 million which will further put us ahead of the competition in 2017.”
