CR Labs is encouraging both optical practices and their patients to make environmentally conscious choices in its Green Looks Good on You campaign.
“We are committed to pioneering sustainable solutions in the optical industry,” the company said in a statement.
“With growing awareness of climate change and the importance of reducing our carbon footprint, the optical industry has a unique opportunity to make a real impact,” it said.
“Through sustainable innovation, we are rethinking how lenses are produced and delivered, ensuring that environmental responsibility remains at the forefront of our operations.”
Central to its initiative is CR Labs’ “innovative” Eco6 lens, Australia’s first biomass lens material, which “seamlessly combines superior optical performance with eco-friendly design”.
Unlike conventional lenses, which rely on fossil fuel-derived plastics, Eco6 is crafted from renewable biomass materials, significantly reducing its carbon footprint.
“Not only are these lenses sustainable, but they also offer the same high-quality visual clarity that optometrists and patients expect.
“Their lightweight composition ensures comfort, while their durability makes them suitable for a variety of frame styles, including rimless and nylon/inline fittings. The Eco6 lens is also highly adaptable, available in various tints and densities to meet different lifestyle and prescription needs.”
CR Labs said its sustainability efforts went beyond the lenses themselves.
“As part of our broader commitment to reducing environmental impact, CR Labs has transitioned to using 100% recycled materials for packaging, eliminating unnecessary waste and promoting a circular economy.
“In addition, we have introduced a comprehensive water-saving initiative, incorporating advanced filtration and recycling systems that conserve thousands of litres of water annually. These efforts not only reduce our operational footprint but also set a new standard for sustainability in the optical industry.”
The company said it was also moving towards a paper-free ordering system.
It was encouraging optical practices to transition to its digital ordering platform to reduce paper consumption while improving efficiency.
“By choosing Eco6 lenses and embracing these sustainable practices, optical professionals can offer their patients high-quality eyewear that aligns with a commitment to environmental stewardship,” CR Labs said.
