CooperVision unveils new daily toric contact lens

The lenses feature the same Optimised Toric Lens Geometry found in Biofinity toric, combined with Smart Silicone technology designed to deliver the best aspects of both hydrogel and silicone hydrogel lenses. The lens itself contains only 4.4% silicone – the lowest percentage found in silicone hydrogel 1-day lenses. This helps optimise oxygen permeability and leaves more room for mydrophilic material, resulting in improved surface wettability, a higher water content and a lower modulus for a softer, more comfortable experience.{{image2-a:r-w:350}}The Optimised Toric Lens Geometry provides uniform horizontal ISO thickness, an optimised ballast band design, large toric optic zone, and a smooth, continuous surface, making it an easy-to-fit, stable toric lens.CooperVision’s senior vice president of global marketing, Mr Guy Whittaker, said optometrists had been requesting a toric version of its MyDay lenses since they were first unveiled in 2013.“We worked alongside th [optometrists], listened to their needs, and are excited to place the lens in their hands. MyDay toric is an advanced lens that practitioners can use to help further build their practices by giving patients with astigmatism a healthy, comfortable lens-wearing experience with the lens stability and visual acuity they have come to expect from CooperVision’s toric lenses,” Whittaker said.“We firmly believe that this product represents the best way to manage astigmatic patients.”Testing conducted by CooperVision found that MyDay toric scored highly for comfort both immediately after insertion and throughout the day, while its built-in UV protection filters 85% of UVA and 96% of UVB rays, helping promote long-term ocular health.MyDay toric is available in sphere powers; Plano to -6.00DS (0.25D steps) and -6.50 to -10.00DS (0.50D steps) with cylinder powers of -0.75, -1.25, and -1.75DC in axes of 10, 20, 70, 80, 90, 100, 110, 160, 170, and 180 and -2.25DC in axes of 10, 20, 90, 160, 170, and 180. The addition of plus powers; +0.50 to +6.00DS (0.50D steps) will come later in the year. MyDay toric lenses have a base curve of 8.6mm and a diameter of 14.5mm.More reading: CooperVision introduces new SiHy contact lensesVisit Showroom: CooperVisionIMAGE TOP: Courtesy Flickr/suanie
