CooperVision introduces new SiHy contact lenses

Biofinity XR toric incorporates a similar uniform horizontal ISO thickness and optimised ballast band as CooperVision’s established Biofinity toric contact lens. It has been designed with a junctionless front surface to ensure that the eyelid interacts with a smooth lens surface with each blink, improving wearer comfort.As is standard with all lenses in the Biofinity range, Biofinity XR toric uses ‘Aquaform Technology’, which is said to allow more oxygen to reach the eyes, promoting healthy corneal physiology.According to CooperVision, Biofinity XR is the only SiHy contact lens range from a major manufacturer designed for patients with prescriptions beyond the traditional stock range.The company first launched its Biofinity XR sphere lenses in late 2013. The lenses were designed to offer patients with high myopia and hyperopia a combination of high oxygen permeability and all-day comfort.It was said that the introduction of Biofinity XR toric meant these critical benefits were now available to patients with both high prescriptions and astigmatism – typically patients who have had challenges with contact lenses in the past or who may have thought that contact lens wear was not an option.CooperVision ANZ professional services manager Mr Joe Tanner explained that the new lenses offered proven comfort, visual acuity and stable fit to patients who may otherwise not have had the opportunity to experience the benefits of SiHy wear.
