CooperVision and HOYA have been announced as platinum and diamond sponsors respectively of major industry event in Australia next year, O=MEGA23/WCO4.
Taking place from 8-10 September 2023 at the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre, O=MEGA23 is running in partnership with the 4th World Congress of Optometry as an expanded international event.
Organisers behind the biggest eyecare and eyewear fair in Australia combined with the most credentialed and largest annual optometry clinical conference in the Southern Hemisphere said it will be a critical event for the optometry sector.
Mr Dan Burgess, myopia management commercial lead at CooperVision, said the company is proud to have secured the major platinum sponsorship at O=MEGA23/WCO4.
“We had hoped to have supported a live 2021 event, but due to COVID that was not possible. However, we are excited to be planning a major presence at the first O=MEGA event since 2019, and one that will see the 4th World Congress of Optometry integrated into what was already the biggest eyecare event in the Southern Hemisphere,” he said.
“As platinum sponsor of O=MEGA23/WCO4, CooperVision is keen to share valuable insights via a keynote address on Myopia Management. Presenting information face-to-face and being able to chat with peers on educational content and research findings is such an important activity and we are very happy to be contributing in a way that helps facilitate this.”
Burgess said the event is especially fitting for CooperVision given its partnership with the World Council of Optometry to define and promote a standard of care to treat myopia progression.
“As a global partnership, and an initiative that is centred around evidence-based approaches without bias toward any particular treatment methodologies, key global events like O=MEGA23/WCO4 are an excellent opportunity to share and discuss the latest research in evidenced-based myopia management,” he said.
With optometrists attending from all over the world and those from Australia for the first time since 2019, this event is shaping up to be the most prominent to date for O=MEGA. Presented by ODMA, Optometry Victoria South Australia, and the World Congress of Optometry, event sponsors are welcoming this key opportunity to meet with the sector.
Mr Craig Chick, HOYA Lens Australia managing director, said the company is excited to be the diamond sponsor of the premier event of 2023.
“With a significant presence planned during both the trade show and the 4th World Congress of Optometry, this format allows HOYA to communicate with customers and optometrists at both a clinical and commercial level. We are very happy to support such an important congress,” he said.
“As diamond sponsor, HOYA are thrilled to be sharing the latest insights in myopia management via a symposium during the conference program,” he added.
Acting ODMA CEO Ms Amanda Trotman said the organisation was thrilled to announce the event’s major sponsors.
“CooperVision was of course in support of the event in 2021, which sadly could not be held due to COVID. HOYA has made the decision to really increase its presence at the 2023 event. It is the support and participation of the sponsors and trade exhibitors that really make a huge contribution to making live events viable given the high costs of holding these events,” Trotman said.
“As an advocate of live events, I am always appreciative of sponsor involvement, as there is nothing like attending a face-to-face event and the connections people will make at events such as O=MEGA. These connections I know can be life changing, for both attendees’ personal and business lives.”
