Childcare worker Gabrielle Barendregt has beaten hundreds of entries tobe crowned the ‘Specsavers Spectacle Wearer of the Year for 2010’.The stunning 21 year old from South Australia took out the title at an intense grand final in Sydney last month.
Gabrielle beat four other finalists from across Australia to be namedAustralia’s best framed face and is set to become Australia’s newestmodelling sensation.
The competition was judged on personality and overall specs appeal by anexpert panel including notable designer Alex Perry, Leea Charlwood ofScoop Model Managent and celebrity hairstylist Oscar Cullinan.
Gabrielle commented: “It’s not normally considered cool to wear glassesso I never imagined that wearing glasses would give me an opportunity tobecome a model. It’s very exciting and I’m honoured to be Australia’sfirst Spectacle Wearer of the Year, particularly as the other finalistswere so gorgeous.”
According to Alex Perry: “The standard of entries was incredibly high,but we chose Gabrielle for her fresh-faced appeal and her natural,effortless style. She’s absolutely beautiful and has a very versatileface that suits a multitude of different frames.”
Gabrielle won a year’s modelling representation by Scoop Model Managent and $2,500 cash.
The four runners-up, Jennifer Howard and Mat Ford from NSW, and PaigeCraswell and Brodie Bott from Queensland, didn’t walk away ptyhanded. They each received $1,000 cash and everyone takes home a goodiebag of products from Aveda and Napoleon Perdis, a style session atOscar Oscar Salons and a $500 Specsavers voucher.
In the United Kingdom, the Specsavers Spectacle Wearer of the Yearcompetition has become a major date on the annual social calendar withcelebrities jostling for position among the finalists, the public andpaparazzi. As well as the main Spectacle Wearer of the Year prize thereare three highly prized celebrity awards, including Celebrity SpectacleWearer of the Year.
The 2010 UK Award Night took place in a glare of publicity at London’s Victoria & Albert Museum in Novber.
