While he won a majority of primary votes, it looked as though he would lose out after preferences were counted, particularly as the Greens collected about 10 per cent of the vote, with a substantial proportion of their preferences likely to go back to the Labor candidate, Ms Terri Butler.It was the second time in five months that residents of Griffith – an electorate covering inner-city suburbs on Brisbane’s southside – had gone to the ballot box.Australian Electoral Commission figures showed a primary-vote swing to Dr Glasson, but was Ms Butler ahead after preferences, 52.3 per cent to 47.7 per cent, a less-than-1-per-cent swing to the government.At press time, there were more than 10,000 postal and pre-poll votes still to come in.
