Professor Nathan Efron has won the Charles F Prentice Medal, the top award of the American Academy of Optometry.
The prestigious international award, presented earlier in November, honours the lifetime research achievements of the prominent Australian optometrist.
Prof Efron is only the third residential Australian to receive it.
“I guess I have come a long way since matriculating from Mount Scopus College in 1972,” he told The Australian Jewish News (AJN) after the presentation.
“The Prentice Medal is the most important international research award in optometry.
“I’m thrilled, humbled and honoured to receive it.”
Prof Efron is internationally acclaimed for his work in two fields, the impact of contact lens wear on the eye, and eye tests for assessing diabetic neuropathy.
