Some of the nation’s prominent ophthalmologists, flying the flag for the Australian Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (AUSCRS), will feature in a must-attend session at America’s top ophthalmology conference.
AUSCRS will take the stage at ASCRS 2025, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons’ annual meeting, in a session called: ‘The good, the bad, and the ugly’. It will take place 26 April 3.30-5pm.
Focused on complex cataract cases through real-world experiences, AUSCRS co-presidents Dr Jacqueline Beltz and Professor Gerard Sutton will co-chair the session with a high-powered line-up of other Australian ophthalmologists like Professor Graham Barrett, Dr Ben LaHood and Dr Dan Black.
They will be joined on stage by three of the US’ top ophthalmologists in Dr Karl Stonecipher, Dr Cathy McCabe and Dr Audrey Rostov.

Attendees will examine case studies showcasing the “good”, highlighting successful outcomes and innovative techniques.
The “bad” will cover common complications and risk mitigation strategies, while analysing sub-optimal results.
Finally, the “ugly” will address rare challenges like intraoperative surprises. Experts will share their approaches, emphasising the need for adaptability in surgery.
