The Australian College of Optometry’s (ACO) upcoming paediatric masterclass is taking place in Melbourne on Sunday 30 June, and will review practical, evidence-based management options for various paediatric presentations.
This half-day in-person event will feature presentations from clinical experts Mr Tim Martin, lead clinical teaching instructor at Melbourne Eyecare Clinic, Ms Zeinab Fakih, ACO manager of paediatric and rehabilitative services, and Dr Ebru Efem, clinical educator at La Trobe University.
Experienced paediatric optometrist, Mr Rod Baker will facilitate lead group discussion, ensuring an interactive masterclass with take-home insights for immediate implementation in practise.

Overview of lectures
In his lecture, Martin will discuss evidence-based myopia control and how to select and tailor treatments to patients.
Fakih will detail the evaluation of a child with hyperopia and factors that may influence management. Her lecture will explore primary and secondary hyperopia, and its systemic associations will be considered. Fakih will also review complications of hyperopia and when ophthalmological intervention is necessary.
Dr Ebru Efem will lead the third lecture, reviewing the practical applications of ocular therapeutics in paediatric patients. She will present case studies to demonstrate evidence-based management of paediatric patients with various ocular conditions. Dr Efem will also review ocular therapeutics in myopia and amblyopia management as well as the psychosocial impact of eye drop use in paediatric care.

This masterclass has limited capacity and early registration is recommended.
Taking place on Sunday 30 June, this in-person event will provide optometrists 5.25i CPD points, including 3.5 therapeutic points.
