Porsche Design grants Rodenstock 10-year contract extension

Porsche Design has granted global eyewear manufacturer Rodenstock Group a ten-year license contract extension to continue supply of frames for the leading design company.

The contract was renewed during the recent international trade fair Opti by Rodenstock CEO Mr Oliver Kastalio and Porsche Design CEO Dr Jan Becker. Both companies have been working together for more than 15 years.

Under the agreement, Rodenstock will continue to develop and manufacture Porsche Design’s premium range of sunglass frames, correction frames and complete reading spectacles for men and women.

Kastalio said the deal underlined Rodenstock’s strategy to continue to focus on the successful, high-turnover eyewear brands in its portfolio.

"We have been working with the Porsche Design Group very successfully for over 15 years and will continue this successful collaboration on the same scale," Kastalio said,

Meanwhile Becker, who is also the spokesman for Porsche Design’s board of directors said, "The spectacles sector, and particularly the sunglasses sector, has a very long and extremely successful history at Porsche Design.

“In Rodenstock we have found a strategic partner with which we not only share the same values, but with which we also intend to continue to expand this important segment for us over the next few years.”

The partnership will likely help solidify the companies’ foothold in the Australian market, after Rodenstock Australia re-launched the Porsche Design Eyewear series last year in partnership with Matrix Eyewear.

Rodenstock Australia general manager Tim McCann said he was very excited about the extension of the Porsche license, which means a continuation of the local distribution through Matrix Eyewear.

“We are very encouraged by the ongoing partnership with Matrix Eyewear. Their complementary brand structure makes for a perfect co-operation in Australia and between us the Porsche Design Eyewear brand is moving from strength to strength,” he said.

Under the partnership, Porsche Design frames are ordered through Matrix Eyewear, but Rodenstock will maintain distribution in other branches under the Rodenstock portfolio along with licensed brands Jill Sander, Bogner and Mercedes-Benz Style.
