Mr Brendon Gardner has been announced as the new head of The Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital (RVEEH).

He comes to the role with 22 years experience at Peninsula Health, where he has held a number of positions ranging from director of information management to executive director of Frankston hospital and, most recently, CEO.

Gardner has also been employed as a senior lecturer at Monash University, and has co-authored several publications on case-mix funding, clinical costing and the use of data to enhance services.

Dr Sherene Devanesen, RVEEH board chair, said that Gardner has a proven track record of promoting both consumer and volunteer engagement.

“Brendon’s reflective, collaborative style, coupled with strong interpersonal skills has enabled the establishment of good stakeholder relationships, both internally and externally, resulting in the delivery of effective and efficient services.”

Gardner will commence in the role on 16 September. He replaces Mr Mark Petty, who stood down from the position in July.

Last year’s Australian Institute of Health and Welfare report found the RVEEH to be the nation’s busiest eye hospital, with more than double the number of elective eye procedures performed than any other in the country.
