Alcon launches AIR OPTIX plus HydraGlyde contact lenses

The introduction of a new type of contact lens to the Australian market should provide users with a more comfortable and longer-lasting lens wearing experience.

The Alcon AIR OPTIX plus HydraGlyde monthly replacement contact lens combines two unique technologies to provide improved deposit resistance and longer-lasting lens surface moisture.

According to the company release, in countries that have already launched the new lens, there have been reports of more comfortable lens insertion for patients, while the success rate for new lens wearers has also improved. This is because eye care professionals have found it easier to teach a new wearer about lens handling and adaption when using the AIR OPTIX plus HydraGlyde.

Ms Karen Fowler, country business head of Alcon Australia Vision Care, said she is excited to add AIR OPTIX plus HydraGlyde to Alcon's monthly replacement portfolio of products and that they looked forward to introducing them to professionals through a series of exclusive dinner events.

"Our DAILIES TOTAL1 Multifocal events attracted record attendances right across Australia and New Zeland, which tells us eye care professionals are keen to learn about the latest technologies," Fowler said.

"Launch events… provide a thoughtful mix of technology and thought leader insights. Alcon's exclusive dinner series events will provide an opportunity for eye care professionals to get up close and personal with this lens by learning about this latest innovation from key opinion leaders," she added.

According to Fowler Alcon's previous events for the Dailies Total1 Multifocal product launch were quite successful. The new lenses are expected to be available later this month, with the series of exclusive dinner events scheduled to start next month.
