The organisers of next year’s O=MEGA19 have announced the keynote speakers as well as new sponsors for the inaugural event.

Bausch + Lomb has been unveiled as the conference’s platinum sponsor, while the speaking line up will include University of Houston professor of optometry Ms Danica Marrelli and American Academy of Optometry Fellow, Mr Jordan Keith.

Marrelli also serves as Assistant Dean of Clinical Education at the university’s optometry college and practices in the glaucoma, retina and general eye disease clinics, while Keith is chair of the Minnesota Optometric Association Education Committee, amongst other roles.

The newly formed conference, which will be jointly run by ODMA and Optometry Victoria (OV), is set to take place from July 19–21 at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. OV CEO Mr Pete Haydon said the organisers had long been interested in hosting Marrelli, while Keith came “highly recommended”.

“We’ll now look to compliment these two speakers with the amazing talent we have available locally to produce a program worthy of this inaugural version of O=MEGA.”

“The clinical conference at O=MEGA19 will be the strongest presented in Australia for many years,” he said.

“We think they’ll be wonderful keynotes. We’ll now look to compliment these two speakers with the amazing talent we have available locally to produce a program worthy of this inaugural version of O=MEGA.”

The organisers have also said 85% of exhibitors stands had already been sold, and major equipment and lens companies such as Hoya, Zeiss, Essilor, J&J, BOC Ophthalmic Instruments, Designs For Vision and Contact Lens Centre Australia would be joined by frame and sunglass brands including Maui Jim, Eyes Right Optical and Optique Line.

“We are absolutely delighted to welcome Bausch and Lomb on board as platinum sponsor in a first ever sponsorship for us,” ODMA CEO Ms Finola Carey said.

“We also welcome Alcon as diamond sponsor, joining all our loyal exhibitors of many years. It heralds a new era of unity in the industry with every facet of optics united under the one roof and working together.”
