Optometry college recognises graduates

23/05/2018By Matthew Woodley
Graduates of the Australian College of Optometry (ACO)’s Certificate in Ocular Therapeutics were recognised recently in a ceremony held at the Amies Theatre in Melbourne.

Graduates and families from across Australia and New Zealand attended the event, where graduates from three other intakes – April 2015, September 2015 and April 2016 – were also acknowledged. Ms Sonia Bostjancic was named the 2017 Outstanding Graduate, and the ACO’s CEO Ms Maureen O’Keefe, Curriculum Committee chair Associate Professor Ian Gutteridge and director of education Mr Marcel Mihulka were all on hand to present the certificates.

According to the ACO, the Certificate in Ocular Therapeutics is designed to ensure that graduates in Australia are suitably trained to prescribe or administer approved schedule 2, 3 and 4 medicines for the treatment of ocular conditions. Meanwhile, for graduates practising in New Zealand, it demonstrates that they are suitably qualified to prescribe or administer medicines for the treatment of ocular conditions within their approved scope of practice.

The ACO is not accepting any more registrations for the 2018 Certificate in Ocular Therapeutics course, but details of the 2019 intake will be posted on its website soon.
